Tackett hurls one-hitter at Day Air Ball Park; Weekend Baseball Roundup

DAYTON — Colin Tackett shined on the mound as the Newton baseball team picked up a 2-1 win over Fairlawn Sunday at Day Air Ball Park.

Tackett pitched a one-hitter, striking out six and walking two.

He helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Harold Oburn was also 2-for-3.

Newton was coming off a 6-5 win over Twin Valley South Friday in CCC action.

Alex Koon had a home run and two RBIS and Ross Ferrell had three RBIs.

Hudson Montgomery and Lane Bayer was 2-for-3.

Hudson Montgomery and Koon combined on a four-hitter, striking out four and walking seven.

Troy tops

Sidney

SIDNEY — The Troy baseball team picked up a 7-1 win over Sidney Friday in MVL action to complete a sweep of the Yellow Jackets.

Ryder Kirtley was 2-for-4 with a double, while Caleb Fogarty was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Trayce Mercer was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Owen Harlamert was 2-for-2 with a homer.

Andrew Helman and Brian Allen combined on a one-hitter, striking out seven and walking three.

Tipp goes

to 14-0

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe baseball team won two more games to improve to 14-0 on the season.

On Friday, Tipp went to 11-0 in the MVL with a 6-1 win over Fairborn.

Josh Dietz had two RBIs and Jonny Baileys was 2-for-3 with a double.

Matt Salmon pitched a three-hitter, striking out eight.

On Saturday, Tipp defeated Eaton 5-4.

Brayden Bottles was 2-for-4 with a double and Clay Vaughn was 2-for-3.

Troy Taylor and Baileys combined on a seven-hitter, striking out nine and walking three.

Piqua tops

Stebbins twice

PIQUA — The Piqua baseball team improved to 8-8 with two wins over Stebbins Friday.

In the completion of a suspended game, Piqua won 7-6 in nine innings.

In the ninth, Brady Ouhl walked and came around to score on Blane Ouhl’s single.

In the second game, Piqua won 7-4.

Brady Ouhl was 2-for-3 and Zane Pratt was 2-for-2.

Blane Ouhl had a double.

Brady and Blane Ouhl combined on the pitching effort.

They allowed two hits, striking out four and walking two.

The Indians dropped to 8-9 with an 8-6 loss to Kenton Ridge Saturday.

TROY — The Troy Christian baseball team improved to 10-2 with two wins.

On Friday, the Eagles defeated Emmanuel Christian 27-0.

Charlie Knostman was 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs scored and two RBIs.

Ben Major was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, Lucas Day was 4-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs, Ethan Twiss was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Gavin Blore was 2-for-6.

Adam Twiss was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Rylee Huber was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Conner Frye was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and George Knostman was 2-for-2.

Day and Paul McDonald combined on a no-hitter, strking out eight.

Troy Christian got a 10-4 win over Tri-County North Saturday.

Day was 3-for-4, with a double, home run, three runs scored and three RBIs.

Ethan Twiss was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Blore was 2-for-4 with a double and Camden Koukol was 2-for-3 with a double.

Frye, Adam Twiss and Ethan Twiss combined on an eight-hitter, striking out five and walking seven.

CASSTOWN — The Miami East baseball team improved to 12-1 and remained unbeaten in the CCC with a 15-10 win over Franklin Monroe Friday.

Gage Butz was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, a triple and two RBIs.

Austin Francis was 3-for-3 with a double, home run and five RBIs, Tyler Kirby had two RBIs and Wesley Nidzgorski was 2-for-2.

Garrett LeMaster, Ethan Howell and Francis combined on a seven-hitter, striking out 12 and walking four.

HOUSTON — The Covington baseball team picked up a 9-5 win over Houston to improve to 7-8 on the season.

Jakob Hamilton had a double and three RBIs, Jensen Wagoner was 2-for-4 and Trey Schmelzer had two RBIs.

Wes Gooding pitched a six-hitter, striking out three and walking four.

WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union baseball team lost two games.

Milton lost to Waynesville 7-0 in SWBL action.

Peyton Nichols was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Nelson Morter Jr. pitched a seven-hitter, striking out four and walking three.

The Bulldogs lost to Arcanum 18-4.

Morton Jr. was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Connor Fijakowski had a double.
