TROY — Each year, Troy High School gives the Carson and Vesper awards to the outstanding male and female student in the junior class.
Typically, these awards are given out at the annual Troy High School farewell assembly in the spring. Because of last spring’s school shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, those awards were not given out to the class of 2021’s outstanding junior students.
Troy High School named the Carson and Vesper Award winners to the outstanding juniors — who are now seniors — in the class of 2021. Bailey Brogan, daughter of Chad and Erica Brogan, was named the Carson Award winner. Grant Klopfenstein, son of Steve and Tawnee Klopfenstein, was named the Vesper Award winner.
Brogan has been a member of Student Government, Junior Cabinet, Senior Cabinet and is the National Honors Society Vice-President. She has excelled athletically as a football, basketball, and competition cheerleader for four years. She has given back to the Troy Community by volunteering her time at the Senior Citizens Center, Riverside of Miami County and has served as a nanny during the pandemic. She has excelled in the classroom as she is currently ranked 21st in the class with a grade point average of 4.125.
Klopfenstein has been a member of the varsity football and track teams and the junior varsity golf team. He is a member of Student Government, Key Club, Science Club and is the President of the National Honor Society. He was a representative for the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference, and a member of the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy. He also volunteers at the WACO Museum. He is currently ranked 6th in the class with a grade point average of 4.34.
The Carson Award has been given to an outstanding junior female at Troy High School since 1924. The award was started in honor of Mrs. Victoria Carson Caufield, for her friendliness and hard work in Troy. The Vesper Award has been given to an outstanding junior male since 1955. It is given in honor of Mr. Carl Vesper for his 40 years of service at Troy High School teaching science.
