Tipp cross country sweeps Troy Twilight Invitational: Saturday sports roundup

TROY — The Tippecanoe cross country teams continued to set the pace in the Miami Valley League, sweeping the Troy Twilight Invitational under the lights Saturday night, with Troy’s Josh Lovitt winning individually on the boys side.

The Red Devil boys won with 31 points. Allan Murray was third (17:02.8), Michael Lyons was fourth (17:11.2), Gannon Owen was fifth (17:18), Trenton Brown was ninth (17:24) and Ben Prenger was 10th (17:28.1).

Troy was second with 43 points, with Lovitt winning in 16:38.4. Will Schaefer was seventh (17:20.8), Matthew Spayde was eighth (17:21.7), Gavin Hutchinson was 12th (17:30.5) and Kyle McCord was 16th (17:49.9).

Piqua was third with 70 points. Nolan Campbell was second (16:40.4), Paul Hinds was sixth (17:18.5), Jesse Furman was 20th (18:05.6), Caven Wiles was 22nd (18:26.6) and Simon Baker was 31st (19:02.8).

On the girls side, Tippecanoe won with 35 points. Annie Sinning was second (20:11.1), Shelby Hept was third (20:27.2), Gracie Wead was seventh (21:09.4), Isa Ramos was ninth (21:54.7) and Katie Landis was 14th (22:40.6).

Troy was second with 43 points. Emma Kennett was fourth (20:38), Millie Peltier was sixth (21:07.8), Ashley Kyle was 10th (21:57), Hallie Frigge was 11th (22:21.9) and Kara Enneking was 12th (22:34.6).

Piqua was fourth with 99 points, led by Cassie Schrubb in fifth (20:53.9) and Jana Wagner in 13th (22:38.8).

Brookville

Invitational

BROOKVILLE — Milton-Union’s boys and girls swept second place in the white division races at the Brookville Invitational Saturday, with the girls scoring 49 points and the boys scoring 71.

For the girls, Sophie Meredith was third (21:54.9), Micah Tracy was fifth (22:15.3), Maddie Stasiak was sixth (22:49), Kelsie Tomlinson was 15th (25:09.1) and Madison Coate was 26th (27:07.6).

Eric Trittschuh won the boys race (17:33.3), Chris Miller was fourth (18:12.8), Kyle Bostick was 10th (18:52.1), Mckinah Rupp was 30th (21:25.9) and Collin Thomas was 32nd (21:28.9).

In the blue division, Miami East’s girls were third with 78 points, with Maryn Gross leading the way in fourth (20:55.5), Kendal Staley finishing 11th (22:31) and Kiley Davie finishing 12th (22:43).

Troy Christian’s girls were sixth with 159 points, led by Jewel Myers in 15th (23:23.2) and Mackenzie Rougier in 22nd (24:28.1).

Troy Christian’s Noah Shook was second individually (17:34.2) in the blue division race. Miami East’s boys were fourth as a team with 122 points, led by Andrew Crane in 24th (19:25).

Bearcat

Invitational

SPENCERVILLE — Covington’s boys finished second in the red division at Spencerville’s Bearcat Invitational Saturday, scoring 58 points.

Bennett Welborn finished second for the Buccaneers (16:48.8), Britton Miller was seventh (17:45.1), Asher Long was 14th (18:01.6), Mic Barhorst was 17th (18:10.9) and Tyler Alexander was 25th (18:46.6). Bradford was 15th as a team with 431 points.

On the girls side, Covington was 11th with 237 points, led by Johanna Welborn in 12th (21:29). Bradford was 12th with 266 points, led by Skipp Miller in seventh (20:49.4).

Don Horn

Invitational

MIDDLETOWN — Bethel’s boys finished second with 70 at Bishop Fenwick’s Don Horn Invitational Saturday, while the Bees girls finished sixth with 164 points.

Cole Brannan finished seventh (17:47.9) to lead the boys, Trent Schwiekhardt was 10th (18:03.7), Kaleb Roberts was 16th (18:23.6), Jaiden Hogge was 17th (18:26.2) and Nathaniel Patton was 23rd (18:41.6).

Makenzie Nida led the girls in 20th (25:03.9).

Miami East 2

CASSTOWN — Troy Christian, tied for the No. 1 rank in Division III’s first state poll, took on Miami East Saturday on the road, holding off the Vikings 3-2 to remain undefeated.

Josh Brubaker had two goals and Evan Murphy added one for the Eagles (7-0), with Ty Davis adding two assists and Alex Free one.

Logan McEldowney and Ethan Gudorf scored for Miami East, while Caleb Stone had an assist.

Bethel 2,

Lehman 2

SIDNEY — After falling behind 2-0 by halftime, Bethel (3-2-3) battled back to earn a 2-2 draw Saturday at Lehman.

Grant Bean had a goal and an assist, Casey Keesee scored a goal and Ethan Tallmadge had an assist for the Bees.

Fairborn 0

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe girls soccer team kept pace with Butler atop the Miami Valley League Standings with a 2-0 victory over Fairborn, improving to 6-0 on the season.

Kenna Smith and Payton Willis each had a goal for the Red Devils and Shleby Ferguson had an assist.

Stebbins 2

PIQUA — Piqua won its second straight Saturday, defeating Stebbins 3-2.

Jordan Karn scored a pair of goals, Raylynn Ward added one and Audrey Evans had two assists for the Indians (2-4).

Troy 2

SIDNEY — Troy dropped its second straight and fell to 0-2-1 in its last three games, falling 2.5 games behind in the MVL standings as the Trojans (3-2-1) lost 4-2 at Sidney Saturday night.

Ansonia 1

ANSONIA — After dropping the first set, the Covington volleyball team came roaring back Saturday at Ansonia, winning 18-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-21 to improve to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Cross County Conference.

Nigella Reck led the way with 18 kills, 29 digs and four aces, Carlie Besecker added 13 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, Lauren York had 10 kills and 13 digs, Emmaline Kiser had seven kills and Hillary Hoying had six digs and two aces. Kearsten Wiggins piled up 21 assists in the first two sets, and Ellery Reck had 22 assists in the final two.
