MIAMI COUNTY — Every year the Ohio Association of Housing Authorities (OHAC) awards up to six, $1000 scholarships in the state to persons receiving housing assistance through their local Housing Authority. This is the first year that Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority provided the opportunity for people it assists to apply for this award. Troy voucher holder Carmose Bensman was one of the recipients awarded a scholarship this year.
Award winners write a short essay and are usually selected in the spring to formally receive the award at the spring statewide OHAC Conference.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the awards were delayed and the conference cancelled.
Bensman wrote about her challenges as an adopted child from Haiti and her goal of eventually getting her degree in social work to help children and families overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
