Civic band closes season

PIQUA — The Piqua Civic Band will conclude its summer season on Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m. at Hance Pavilion in Fountain Park with music celebrating various holidays of the year. While the band performs an annual Holiday concert, this concert is designed to salute the celebrations throughout the rest of the calendar year. Selections will include Put a Little Love in Your Heart, Lift Every Voice and Sing, The Irish Washerwoman, Easter Parade, Selections from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more! In addition the band’s trumpet and horn trios will be featured with Three Kings and Bugler’s Holiday.

Mosquito fogging planned

PIQUA — The city of Piqua is scheduled for mosquito fogging on Thursday, July 30. Fogging will begin around 8 p.m. A1 Able Pest Doctors has been contracted for fogging services.

The fog may have a slight odor but should not be strong smelling. The fog is not harmful to breathe though individuals should not follow the truck or stand directly in the fog’s path. Fogging will continue all night until every street has been covered.

WACO to hold family day

TROY — Looking for a safe, fun family activity while staying local? Look no further. In an effort to offer the community local activities, WACO Air Museum is hosting a Family Day Aug. 8-9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will include free admission for the entire family during these limited hours.

Children can enjoy WACO pedal planes while older family members learn more about the Weaver Aircraft Company (WACO) — One of Troy’s hidden gems. Bi-plane rides are also available during these times. Go to www.wacoairmuseum.org to purchase your flight.

Focusing on present day aviation, Sinclair’s National UAS Certification and Training Center will be offering presentations on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) including essential elements of UAS, how UAS is impacting various industries, safe ways to fly, different types of UAS, and examples of Sinclair’s UAS projects. Try your hand at flying one of these UAS on a simulator following the brief presentation, offered hourly.

Flag football registration open

TIPP CITY — Tipp Monroe Community Services’ NFL Flag Football registration has begun and runs until Sept 18. There will be two co-ed age groups: Grades K-2 and 3-5. Register online at tmcomservices.org. All games will have certified referees. The players and spectators will be required to follow COVID 19 Protocol at all games.

Games will be held at Kyle Park. The cost is $80 for residents and $95 for non-residents. The registration fee includes an NFL jersey, flag belt and flags. Late registration will be accepted on a limited basis after Sept 18 and will include a $10 late fee. Games and practices will be held on Sundays beginning on Oct. 11 and run until Nov. 15.

Recreational basketball registration open

TIPP CITY — Register now for Tipp Monroe Community Services’ Recreational Basketball for grades 3-12. The cost is $75 for the first child, $70 for additional children. The fee for nonresidents is $90 for all children. Late registration is Nov. 28 through Dec. 4, $85 resident for first child, $80 for additional children $100 nonresident fee for all children. The season runs from Jan. 4 through March 14.

All participants must follow the Covid-19 guidelines. Players must wear masks or face shields and practice social distancing except when on the court. Coaches must wear masks or face shields at all times. There will be no player evaluations.
