Tipp volleyball wins 3rd straight district title: Weekend sports roundup

KETTERING — In capturing its third straight district championship, the Tippecanoe volleyball team also earned a shot at some payback.

The undefeated Red Devils looked stronger than ever in the Division II district final Saturday at Fairmont’s Trent Arena, routing Taylor 25-12, 25-6, 25-11 and earning a trip to the regional tournament.

Tippecanoe, which improved to 25-0 with the win, was making its fourth straight district final appearance. The first of those appearances in 2017 ended with a loss to Fenwick — which the Red Devils will now face in Thursday’s regional semifinal round.

And on Saturday, Taylor simply never had a chance.

“Out of the gate strong in the first set, scoring a lot from the pins with (Corinn) Siefring leading the way with four kills and the middles (Rachel) Wildermuth and (Olivia) Gustavson with five between them,” Tippecanoe coach Howard Garcia said. “More of the same in the second set, with Siefring leading the way with five kills and (Ashley) Aselage joining the fray with three monstrous attacks from the right side.

“Set 3 was close up to eight points, and we took off thanks to solid blocking — with six total — and great serving. Lots of energy and good ball control during the entire match. I liked our approach and the following of our scouting report.”

Siefring finished with 13 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and two aces, Rachel Wildermuth added six kills, six blocks, two aces and 16 assists, Aselage had five kills, Gustavson had four kills and two blocks and Kaitlyn Husic had four kills and nine digs. Molly Achtenburg had three blocks, Hannah Wildermuth had 12 assists and Alaina Titley had 16 digs and three assists.

Tippecanoe will face Fenwick at 6 p.m. Thursday at Centerville High School.
