CareFlight transports crash victim

PIQUA — A Covington area man was seriously injured after crashing his motorcycle on Versailles Road on Saturday night.

Piqua Fire Department medics were dispatched to the 5000 block of Versailles Road, just west of Spiker Road, around 7:30 p.m. for a reported crash involving a motorcycle. Witnesses on the scene reported the male driver to be unconscious but breathing.

CareFlight was put on standby and when reports from the scene indicated the man’s condition to possibly be declining, Piqua medics requested CareFlight to launch.

An off-duty Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was in the area said that he had heard one motorcycle traveling westbound on Versailles Road at a high rate of speed followed by two more motorcycles behind just before the crash.

The crash victim, Justin Ridenour, 46, was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and later again transported by CareFlight to Ohio State University Medical Center, where he listed in stable condition, according to OSHP reports.

The Covington Fire Department also assisted at the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
