Troy boys hold off Butler in MVL match: Tuesday golf/tennis roundup

VANDALIA — Troy’s boys golf team improved to 6-3 overall and 5-0 in Miami Valley League Miami Division matches Tuesday with a 174-189 victory over Butler at Cassel Hills.

Ryan Dowling was medalist with a 5-over-par 41 for the Trojans. Kellen Glover added a 43, Henry Johnston and Tag Bender both shot 44, Owen Evilsizor shot 46 and Bryce Massingill shot 48.

“Ryan did a real nice job,” Troy coach Mark Evilsizor said. “He was 2-over after two holes and then played the last seven at 1-over. Really proud of how he battled.”

Troy faces Sidney Thursday — a team that defeated the Trojans by one earlier in the season.

PIQUA — Covington dropped a close Cross County Conference match Tuesday at Echo Hills, falling to Tri-Village 168-179.

Grant Humphrey shared medalist honors with a 37, Garret Fraley shot 46, Carter Maxson shot 47, Connor Humphrey and Hunter Ray shot 49 and Job Morgan shot 51.

TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe tennis team won its sixth straight to begin the season Tuesday, sweeping Sidney 5-0.

At first singles, Dakota Schroeder won 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Mira Patel won 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Mia Tobias won 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, Amelia and Eliza Zweizig won 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Riiya Patel and Katy Shultz won 6-2, 6-1.

TROY — Troy bounced back from its loss to Tippecanoe the previous day, defeating Stebbins 4-1 Tuesday to improve to 6-2.

At second singles, Josie Romick won 6-2, 6-0. At third singles, Elizabeth Niemi won 6-4, 6-3. At first doubles, Esha Patel and Cady Rhea won 7-5, 6-1. At second doubles, Madailein Logan and Taima Rajab won 6-0, 6-0.

At first singles, Danielle Robbins lost 6-0, 6-1.

FAIRBORN — Piqua fell to 4-4 on the season with another tough 3-2 loss, this time at Fairborn on Tuesday.

At second singles, Izzy King won 6-0, 6-0. At first doubles, Cassie Arnett and Paige Stumpff won 6-1, 6-1.

At first singles, Arabella Partee lost 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5). At third singles, Madelynn Fisher lost 6-1, 6-2. At second doubles, Grace and Hannah Pleasant lost 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
