Speed likely a factor in I-75 accident

TIPP CITY — A Dayton woman sustained critical injuries following a three vehicle accident on Tuesday morning.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Piqua Post Sgt. Jeff Kramer, Emily Bierman, 20, of Dayton, was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital after the initial accident was reported around 5:30 a.m. at mile marker 69 on northbound Interstate 75 near State Route 571 and County Road 25-A exits.

Sgt. Kramer said Bierman’s vehicle lost control and struck a second car that went into the fence and treeline. Bierman’s vehicle then traveled to the left side of the interstate and was struck by a semi-truck.

Bierman was the at-fault driver and will be cited for failure to control and assured clear distance.

No alcohol or drugs believed to be involved, although Sgt. Kramer said speed was likely a contributing factor in this incident.

The accident shut down traffic on both sides of the interstate for more than two hours.
