Troy girls golf tops Piqua: Tuesday sports roundup

PIQUA — The Troy girls golf team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, defeated Miami Valley League Miami Division rival Piqua 191-234 at Echo Hills.

Libby Harnish was medalist with a 41 to lead the Trojans (1-4), while Paige Stuchell shot 44. Delaney Davis, Ashley Kloeker and Elise Hemker all shot 53s and Kami Lehman shot 56.

Kenzi Anderson led Piqua (0-4) with a 47, Brooklynne Wright shot 58, Haley Krogman shot 62, Ivy Lee shot 67, Siara Grinstead shot 71 and Marin Funderburg shot 79.

Troy travels to West Carrollton Thursday. Piqua, after traveling to Tippecanoe on Wednesday, returns home to host Sidney Thursday.

XENIA — The defending Miami Valley League Miami Division champion Tippecanoe tennis team opened the season with a crossover match Tuesday, defeating Xenia on the road 5-0.

At first singles, Dakota Schroeder won 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Mira Patel won 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Mia Tobias won 6-0, 6-0.

At first doubles, Amelia and Eliza Zweizig won 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles, Riya Patel and Katy Shultz won 6-2, 6-1.

Tippecanoe (1-0, 1-0 MVL Miami) hosts Piqua Thursday.

PIQUA — On Tuesday, the Piqua Indians bounced back from a season-opening loss the previous day, holding off Sidney for a 3-2 Miami Valley League crossover victory at home.

At second singles, Izzy King won 6-4, 7-5. At first doubles, Cassie Arnett and Paige Stumpff won 6-2, 6-1. At second doubles, Grace and Hannah Pleasant won 6-3, 6-1.

At first singles, Arabella Partee lost 6-0, 6-2. At third singles, Madelynn Fisher lost 7-5, 6-2.

Piqua (1-1, 1-1 MVL Miami) travels to Tippecanoe Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD — Playing an 18-hole match on the Division I sectional course at Reid Park, Troy’s boys golf team and Greenville couldn’t have been more evenly matched.

In the end, though, the Green Wave won by one stroke on a fifth-score tiebreaker, with the score of the match 364-364 and the tiebreaker 100-101.

Henry Johnston was medalist with an 80 for Troy, Owen Evilsizor shot a 92, Ryan Dowling shot 94, Tag Bender shot 98 and Kellen Glover and Bryce Massingill both shot 101.

Troy travels to West Carrollton Thursday.

PIQUA — The Newton Indians knocked off county rival Milton-Union Tuesday at Piqua Country Club, winning 172-187.

Ross Ferrell was medalist for Newton with a 38, Chandler Peters and Hudson Montgomery both shot 44, Carson Knupp shot 46, Alex Koon shot 49 and Mitchell Montgomery shot 44.

For Milton-Union (2-2), Max Grafflin led the way with a 44, Sam Case shot 45, Grady Vechazone shot 46, Nathan Thompson shot 52, Colin Fogle shot 59 and Maria Lopez-Whaler shot 72.

SIDNEY — Troy Christian’s boys golf team lost to Botkins Tuesday, falling 160-250.

Zane Harris shot 53 for the Eagles, Noah Tullis shot 61, Carson Tucker shot 66, Goldie Miller shot 70, Marcus Rowe shot 77 and Luke Redmond shot 81.
