PIQUA — Emerson J. Shear, 94, of Piqua, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born September 24, 1925 in West Manchester to the late Gust D. and Garnet R. (Sweigert) Shear. He married Betty R. Olive October 5, 1946 in Greenville, a loving marriage that would span over 73 years, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Stuart A. Shear of Piqua; a daughter, Barbara Shear of Piqua; twin sisters, Janet Wright of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Janette Stark of Monroe Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and Roxi the grandcat. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Mr. Shear was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and enjoyed a long career in banking having retired in 1988 as a Vice-president of Miami Citizens National Bank (5/3rd). He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 523 in Piqua and Lodge organist and Piqua Kiwanis Club having served as its President. He enjoyed music, playing the organ, dancing, fishing, traveling, and sports notably the Piqua Indians Football, Cincinnati Reds, OSU football and University of Findlay basketball. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness and love of family and community.
A service to honor his life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain Edward Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
