Drawing, dinner offered

PIQUA — The American Legion Post 184 is offering its Tom Brown’s Indy 500 Speedway sweepstakes for the race on Aug. 23.

The elimination drawing will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 and there will be a total of 33 winners.

Tickets are a $25 donation and only 175 tickets will be sold. The ticket also entitles the holder to a New York strip steak dinner with potato and salad from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15., or frozen steaks can be ordered.

Those wishing to enter can stop by the Legion at 301 W. Water St. or call (937) 773-9085 to get tickets.

Lifeguard classes upcoming

MIAMI COUNTY — The Piqua Branch of the Miami County YMCA will be offering a lifeguard class in September and the Robinson Branch in Troy will be offering a class in November. The class at the Piqua Branch will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings Sept. 8, 10, 15, 17, 29, and Oct. 1. The class at the Robinson branch will run two consecutive weekends, Nov. 6-8, and 13-15. The cost is $150 for members and $200 for non members.

There are often opportunities to be hired as a lifeguard at the YMCA after completion of the class. There is also the opportunity to become a swim instructor after starting the guarding job.

The Miami County YMCA-Piqua Branch is located at 223 West High St. in Piqua, and the Robinson Branch is located at 3060 S. County Road 25-A in Troy.

Flag football registration set

TIPP CITY — Tipp Monroe Community Services’ NFL Flag Football registration has begun and runs until Sept 18. There will be two co-ed age groups: Grades K-2 and 3-5. Register online at tmcomservices.org. All games will have certified referees. The players and spectators will be required to follow COVID-19 protocol at all games.

Games will be held at Kyle Park. The cost is $80 for residents and $95 for non-residents. The registration fee includes an NFL jersey, flag belt and flags. Late registration will be accepted on a limited basis after Sept 18 and will include a $10 late fee. Games and practices will be held on Sundays beginning on October 11 and run until November 15.
