SUV hit by train

STAUNTON TOWNSHIP — One person was transported by Troy Fire Department medics following a crash involving an SUV and a CSX train at the Rusk Road crossing early Thursday morning.

The crash occurred at 4:56 a.m. when a northbound CSX freight train struck a 2007 GMC Yukon driven by Dorthy Haulmen-Miller, 69, of Troy. The impact drove the SUV approximately 100 yards from the crossing where it came to rest in a field.

Miller was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center by Troy Fire Department medics and transferred to Miami Valley Hospital aboard CareFlight. Her condition is listed as stable.

The train, pulling 160 cars and 10,000 feet in length, was traveling at approximately 25 miles per hour, according to Miami County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Troy Fire Department, Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and CSX officials responded to the scene.

Several railroad crossings were closed until the train could be moved at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
