STAUNTON TOWNSHIP — A fatal crash on Monday took the life of 11-year-old Grant Gillespie of Troy.
The crash occurred at 12:12 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Troy-Sidney Road and East Peterson Road in Staunton Township, according to a press release fro Miami County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Steve Lord.
The crash involved a commercial dump truck and a passenger vehicle.
Two other occupants of the passenger vehicle were injured and were flown to the hospital by CareFlight. Jennifer D. Hughes, 41, and her son, Memphis Hughes, 12, both of Troy went to the hospital with serious injuries. They were in the passenger vehicle.
The dump truck driver was not transported to hospital.
No alcohol or drugs suspected and charges are likely, Lord said, but will be in the future due to awaiting autopsy results.
“The crash remains under investigation and our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of those involved,” Lord said.
According to Troy Fire Department Chief Matthew Simmons, they have responded to five motor vehicle crashes at the site of Peterson and Troy-Sidney Roads since 2011 — two of which were fatal.
At Troy-Sidney Road, there have been 15 motor vehicle crashes within Stauton Township all together since 2011, which include single-car incidents and deer strikes.
