TROY — One person is confirmed dead following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Troy-Sidney and Peterson roads.
First responders were called to the intersection just before noon Monday where a crash between a dump truck and an SUV was reported.
Troy Fire Department medics, firefighters, and Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived minutes later and requested CareFlight to respond.
One person, a pre-teen passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV and another passenger were transported aboard CareFlight to a Dayton hospital. Another passenger in the SUV was not injured.
The driver of the dump truck, a 19 year old, was not injured.
According to initial reports from the sheriff’s office, the SUV was southbound on Troy-Sidney Road and the dump truck was westbound on Peterson Road when the driver of the dump truck failed to stop at a stop sign, striking the SUV on the driver’s side and sending it into a bean field.
The force of the impact caused the entire front axle and wheels to come off the dump truck.
A crash reconstruction team was called to the scene.
No names have yet been released pending notification of family members.
The patients transported by CareFlight were listed in serious condition on Monday afternoon, according to deputies.
