Remembering the Bradford Fire
BRADFORD — The 100th Anniversary of the Bradford Fire will be honored with an open house at the Bradford Public Library on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk through display will feature photos from Bradford before the fire, with its bustling business district; photos and artifacts from the fire and days following and photos of Bradford after the tragedy.
The fire, which destroyed over 40 businesses and a dozen homes, started late on Aug. 3, 1920 at the Arnold Lumber Company, forever changing the village.
In addition to the walk through display, Bradford Fire and rescue will have one of their engines and Darke county resident, Mel Hocker, will have his 1922 Model T Ford on display. Each family attending will also receive a free smoke detector as supplies last.
