PIQUA — AGNES McCLURE, age 98 of Piqua, OH entered Heaven’s gate on Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was born July 2, 1922 in Parsons, WV to the late John and Nora Simmons. She married Denver McClure in Baltimore, MD and he preceded her in death in 1994.

Together, Agnes and Denver raised six children and they survive: Roger (Ginger) Smith, St. George, WV; Susan (Jerry) Dyson, Piqua; John (Patricia) McClure, Sidney; Bruce McClure, Piqua; Vicki Ohlert, Piqua; Ronda (Mark) Motter, Marysville, OH.

She was blessed with 18 grandchildren: Roger Smith JR, WV; Marty (Amy) Smith, WV; Lorrie (Roy) Jones, WV; Ed (Lynn) Smith, SC; Jeff (Vanessa) Dyson Bradford, OH; Wendy (Mike) Sherman, Piqua, OH; Scott (Casey) Dyson, Piqua, OH; Audra Schaffer, Covington, OH; Teresa Reed, Gordon, OH; Sara (Jeremy) Thompson, WA; Paul (Joann) McClure, Piqua, OH; David (Josey) Ohlert, SD; Megan Ohlert, Piqua, OH; Josh (Tami) Long, Sidney, OH; Eric (Kayla) Burke, Piqua, OH; Matthew Siegel, MI; and Andrew Siegel, Marysville, OH. She is also survived by a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Agnes is preceded in death by one grandson, Mark McClure.

Agnes was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Piqua, OH. A real “Rosie the Riveter,” Mrs. McClure was very proud of her war efforts during WWII. She worked at Glen L. Martin’s defense plant in Baltimore, MD and she helped build B-52s. She retired after 20 years from Dettmer Hospital in Troy, OH. Agnes was a loving Mother, Grandmother and neighbor to all. She was also a remarkable cook, bird watcher and gardener. She often repeated the quote “Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.” The family would like to express a special thank you to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.

A celebration of Agnes’ life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua with Pastor Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Beechwood Cemetery, Lockington, OH. The family will receive friends 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM on Friday, at the funeral home.
