PIQUA — Robert P. Wirrig, 73, of Piqua passed away peacefully at 11:44 am, Sunday, July 19, 2020 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 20, 1947 in Piqua to the late Lawrence and Wilma (Didier) Wirrig.
He married Christeen Strait September 9, 1966 in Hartsville, Tennessee and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Ian (Joel-Rita) Wirrig of Laura; a daughter, Carie Ann (Russell) Runyon of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Logan Runyon, Gavyn Wirrig, Rae-Lyn Wirrig, Kynadie Wirrig; one brother, Ron (Anita) Wirrig of Houston; and two sisters, Becky (Sam) Branson of Troy, Barbara (Dennis) Studebaker of Tipp City. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Wirrig.
Mr. Wirrig was a 1965 graduate of Covington High School. He served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam.
He retired from the Wright Patterson Air Force Base after 40 years as a Tech Engineer.
He was a past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, racing go-karts and was restoring a 1968 Cougar.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was devoted and reliable. He loved his children and his grandchildren.
A service to honor his life will begin at 10 am, Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Chaplain Joshua Krulwich officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
