School proposal released

TROY — Ahead of the Troy Board of Education special meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 21, Troy City Schools Superintendent Chris Piper has released the district’s proposed plan to return to school for the 2020-21 school year.

Piper has released three ways in which families can learn more about the reopening of school, which will be moved from Aug. 19 to Sept. 8: an instructional video, a slideshow and a full copy of the district’s blueprint for reopening the schools.

All three of these elements are available at the district’s website,, and its Facebook and Twitter pages.

The full proposal will still need to be officially approved at the Thursday board of education special meeting.

Art’s Alive canceled

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center has canceled the Art’s Alive event scheduled for October 10.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the safety of the center’s guests, volunteers, and participating artists, staff believe it best to cancel the event this year. The accompanying art competition and exhibit, Master Works Remixed, has also been postponed and rescheduled to April 2022. A complete prospectus outlining requirements and the new dates for the Mater Words Remixed competition is available online at

“We truly appreciate the support that Troy has shown for our arts events and exhibits and continue to look for new ways to bring quality arts experiences to the citizens of Troy,” exhibit coordinator Leona Sargent said in a press release.
