Johnston Farm receives funds

PIQUA — As part of the CARES Act, funds were allocated to assist non-profit organizations suffering the economic impact of the COVID-19 virus. Congress appropriated funds to the National Endowment for the Humanities that were designated to state humanities councils to aid cultural/heritage organizations.

The Johnston Farm & Indian Agency has received an Immediate Emergency grant of $10,000 from the Ohio Humanities Council, according to site manager Andy Hite. These funds will help the Johnston Farm & Indian Agency with short-term core operating costs and will help keep the organization operating throughout the remainder of this challenging summer travel season, Hite said.

Hite said cultural/heritage organizations, like small for-profit businesses, are vital to the economic health of our community. The Johnston Farm & Indian Agency employs staff, purchases goods and services from other local businesses, and helps drive tourism to our area, he said.
