PIQUA — Firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown of a house fire on Wednesday, preventing the blaze from spreading.
Miami County 911 received a call reporting the fire in the 100 block of Mound Street in Piqua, shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Piqua and Covington fire departments were dispatched.
Piqua Police officers arrived moments after the call and reported smoke coming from the two-family wood-frame home.
Arriving Piqua Fire Department units set about knocking down the flames. Covington and Piqua firefighters made entry into the home and put out the flames and began looking for extension as smoke was coming from the attic overhangs.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants of the home.
One occupant was transported to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Piqua Fire Department arson investigators were called to the scene.
No damage estimate or cause has been released.
