PHS holds Purple Out

PIQUA — On Friday, Feb. 8, Piqua High School hosted a Purple Out for freshman, Elise Cox. Elise suffers with pancreatitis. Three weeks ago Cincinnati Children’s Hospital performed surgery on Cox: a surgery that has only been performed 50 times. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is only one of the two hospitals in the United States that performs this particular surgery.

Cox has suffered with pancreatic problems since she was three years old. She has been unable to digest food and produce enough insulin for herself. In the past 12 years Cox has had over 25 surgeries and has been hospitalized 30 times.

Piqua Boys Basketball hosted Sidney and sold purple tie-dye shirts for $10 with proceeds going to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Shirts were sold in the cafeteria and in the office until they were sold out.

“We encouraged everyone to buy their shirts to support Elise and her recovery from pancreatitis.” Chip Hare, athletic director said.
