Piqua residents receive degrees

ADA — Kimberly Gepfrey, daughter of David and Jennifer Gepfrey of Piqua, recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio Northern University. A graduate of Miami East High School, Gepfrey received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education.

David Roth, son of Linda Roth, also of Piqua, graduated from Ohio Northern’s College of Business Administration with a Master of Professional Practice Accounting. He is a graduate of Piqua High School.

Rock Piqua! kicks off June 20

PIQUA — The sophomore season of Rock Piqua! will begin with a concert by Columbus quartet Truslow, who’ll bring their alternative pop-rock to Lock 9 Park on Saturday, June 20. Opening acts will be New Bremen indie-alternative band Forgery at Best, followed by alterna-rockers Shapes & Colors from Detroit.

Food vendors for the concert will be Tin Roof Mobile Food and Susie’s Big Dipper.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free, with donations accepted. In addition to food, beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be available.

YWCA to visit Columbus

PIQUA — Join the YWCA with escort Leesa Baker for a trip back in time at The Ohio Historical Society in Columbus on July 15, to experience “1950’s: Building an American Dream.” Departure time is 8 a.m. with return at 6 p.m.

On display will be a Lustrom home, 1957 Chevy Bellaire, Roy Rogers’s toys, 1950’s TV programs and much more. Home cooking reminiscent of the era will be served at Der Dutchman, followed by a stop at The Hartman Rock Garden in Springfield. The Rock Garden features an 80-year-old art phenomena with artwork made out of concrete, metal, stone and whatever else the self-taught artists could find.

Prices are available for both YWCA members and non-members. All gratuities for lunch and the bus driver are included. Balance for the trip is due June 12.

‘Mary Poppins’ coming to stage

VERSAILLES — The Versailles Towne & Country Players are proud to present the popular Disney musical, “Mary Poppins.” Performances will be held at the Versailles Performing Arts Center on June 10, 11, 18, 19 and 20.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s “Mary Poppins” delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Shows begin at 7:30 p.m., except on Saturday, June 20, when there will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Adults tickets are $12 and students $8. To reserve your seat, call (937) 526-6415.
